The Manukau
Tramping Club was formed in 1976 by a group of like minded
individuals. Today, membership is around 120, with ages ranging
from early teens, to people in their eighties! Our club members
welcome and invite any new people to participate in our tramps/hikes. We
always like to see some new faces in the group!
Tramps or hikes are held on every weekend throughout the year. There are
two tramps held on Sundays, with one being light suitable for
beginners or people with limited time. The second tramp would
suit those with a medium to high level of fitness and tramping
experience. In addition to day tramps, 2 or 3 day weekend tramps
and other trips spanning several days are held regularly.
Details about tramps are listed on the
trips
page.
The weekend trips the Club has done over 2011 included visits to the
following:
- Whirinaki Forest at Anniversary
Weekend
- Tongariro National Park at Easter
- Tangihua Lodge
in Northland in June
- Beginners' Mountain weekend in
August
- Te Kauri Park
near Kawhia in October.
In addition, a ten day circuit of Stewart Island was
completed in March. Planning is well underway for the 2012
weekend trips, starting once again with a camping trip at
Waipakihi River, in the Kaimanawas at Anniversary Weekend.
